
Kofta Ball Soup (Dawood Basha)

Kofta is a Middle Eastern meatball/meatloaf dish typically made of minced/ground beef.
Kofta ball soup
Start by making the Kofta mixture
• 2lbs ground beef 80/20
• 1 /2 red onion
• 1/2 jalapeño deseeded
• 2 cloves garlic
• 1 c cilantro
• 1/2 tbs seasoned salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1/2 tbs Montreal steak seasoning
• 1/2 tsp allspice
Mix all ingredients list above except for the meat, in a blender. Add the blended mix to the meat in a large bowl and mix the Kofta together. Make them into 1 1/2 tbs sized meatballs. Bake in a 400f oven for 15 mins and set aside.
• 3 large russet potatoes, washed peeled and cut into one inch cubes. Toss in vegetable oil about 3 tbs and a 1 tsp salt. Toss together and bake in the oven for 15 mins in 400f and set aside.

For the base of the stew you will need:
1. 1 large red onion chopped
2. 4-5 cloves of garlic crushed
3. 4 tbs tomato paste
4. 3 c water
5. 1 tbs beef bouillon powder
6. 1 tsp Vegeta
7. 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder
8. 1/2 tsp black pepper
9. 1 tsp smoked paprika
10. 1/2 tsp allspice
11. 4 tbs oil
On medium high heat:
1. Sauté the onion and garlic in the oil, for about 8 mins.
2. Add in the tomato paste and mix well.
3. Add in the water and seasonings, let it come to a boil and simmer for about 10 mins.
4. Drop in the potatoes and let them simmer until the potatoes are fork tender.
5. Once the potatoes are tender drop in the Kofta meatballs alone with the pan drippings.
6. Let it come to a simmer for five minutes and serve with rice or pita bread. Garnish with chopped cilantro or parsley.
